📝 Ha Giang Loop Packing List & Important Travel Information

1. Luggage Storage & What to Pack

.Before your trip begins, you may store your main luggage at our homestay, Dragon’s Home. This helps you travel more lightly and comfortably throughout the experience.

  • .Please prepare a small backpack for each person with enough clothes for the trip. Our driver will carry this bag during the journey. (Ideal size: 18cm x 22cm x 40cm or smaller; or under 7kg in weight).
  • .We provide all essentials such as drinking water, raincoat, shoe covers, helmet, Knee and elbow protection, and gloves. You only need to bring your preferred clothes.
  • .Recommended items: toothbrush, swimwear if you want to swim, and a towel if you plan to bathe in rivers (towels are also available at our homestay).
  • .In winter (Nov–Feb), bring warm clothing and good shoes. Choose windproof jackets. In summer (Apr–Jul), don’t forget sunscreen, Sunglasses and Mosquito repellent to apply on the skin.
  • **Digestive enzymes and anti-diarrhea medicine**, only need if Ha Giang is your first tour in Vietnam.
In other words, if the local food in Ha Giang is the first Vietnamese cuisine you try after arriving in the country, your digestive system might not yet be used to the local flavors. These will help in case you experience mild stomach discomfort.

4. Note on swimming and bathing

During your Ha Giang tour, you’ll visit local waterfalls and rivers with crystal-clear, emerald-green water. You’re welcome to swim and bathe here. Please bring a swimsuit and a small towel to dry off if you’d like to enjoy the water. However, please carefully follow our safety advice:
**1. No jumping allowed:**
There may be submerged rocks that aren’t visible from above. Jumping into the water can lead to serious injury. There have unfortunately been two past cases of tourists fatally injured from jumping into waterfalls – in Ha Giang loop.
➡️ You may swim, but **absolutely no jumping**.
**2. Avoid sudden immersion when overheated:**
In the summer, outdoor temperatures can reach 40–43°C. After being exposed to the heat, many travelers feel an urge to plunge into the cold water immediately to cool down.
But this sudden temperature change—when your body is hot and sweating—can cause **shock**, which in severe cases may lead to cardiac arrest or stroke. In milder cases, it often results in **illness**, something locals call “catching a chill.”
➡️ Our advice: **Sit at the water’s edge, put your feet in, and splash water on your body with your hands. Wait about 10 minutes** until your body cools down and your sweat dries. Then, you can slowly enter the water to swim safely.

5. Your Weight

–Because the experience service uses motorbikes, the weight capacity per bike on the Hà Giang mountain passes is limited. We accept a maximum weight of 90 kg per guest at no extra charge. For guests weighing between 90 kg and 115 kg, we can accommodate you on the condition that you pay an additional insurance fee of $5 per day (this insurance covers potential motorbike damage due to the extra weight). If your weight exceeds 115 kg, we will unfortunately have to decline the motorbike service and recommend using a car instead. (Because in addition to your weight, there is also the weight of the driver, the backpacks, and the bottled water.)

–Asian people in general, including Vietnamese people, tend to have smaller builds than Westerners. Local Easy Rider drivers typically weigh around 60–70 kg and rarely exceed 80 kg. This is common in the region, not something unique to Dragon Team.

.On wide, flat roads, drivers may be able to carry passengers weighing up to 140 kg. However, Ha Giang’s mountain roads are often narrow, with sharp bends, steep slopes, and uneven surfaces. When a passenger weighs over 115 kg, it can become difficult for the driver to maintain balance and control the motorbike in unexpected situations. For the safety of both the passenger and the driver, we recommend choosing a car tour instead.
